Drooping and sagging eyelids may lead to a doctor recommending Blepharoplasty; a kind of surgical procedure that repairs sagging or drooping eyelids. The technique may inculcate the removal of excess fat, skin, and muscle.

As the aging process makes its way around to everyone at some time or other, your eyelids may stretch, forcing the muscles that support them to become weak. Consequently, extra fat may accumulate above your eyelids (and below). Naturally, this causes sagging eyebrows, loose and droopy upper lids, and those horrible bags under the eyes.

Blepharoplasty

Aside from the looks being affected, skin that sags around the eyes can lead to vision reduction at the side of the eyes; peripheral vision, in other words. Such vision problems can be rectified with blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery. The removal of excess tissue from the upper eyelids can improve your vision and make you look more alive and alert. Before surgery, as is the case with any surgery, the doctor will conduct a physical examination, a visual test, and a photography session, your eyes being the models. You will also be asked to desist from taking any kind of medication that leads to increased bleeding (such as Ibuprofen or aspirin).

You may be asked to quit smoking as this decreases the chances of healing fast. These are all normal precautions before any surgery, so nothing to worry about there. During the actual surgery, you don’t feel a thing; the doc has given you a local anesthetic shot in your eyelids, so you are laid back while the doc does his/her thing. After surgery, you may experience blurred vision from the lubricant applied before, watering eyes, double vision, puffy eyelids, numbness of the eyelids, bruising and swelling akin to getting a black eye, a bit of pain…nothing earth shattering…all this is just temporary – soon you will be brighter eyed than ever before!
