Intro Cheek, Chin Implants

The use of facial implants can enhance your appearance and your self-image. Before you decide to have this type of plastic surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.

Facial contouring is a form of plastic surgery that changes the basic structure of your face. It frequently involves the use of carefully styled implants to create a more attractive, harmonious balance among your facial features. With facial implants, your surgeon can help you achieve a wider and stronger jaw line, higher cheekbones or a fuller face, or added length and projection to a small chin.

The best candidates for facial implants are people looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. If you’re physically healthy and realistic in your expectations, you may be a good candidate. Facial implants may be used in conjunction with other surgical procedures, such as a forehead lift or a facelift, to help restore a more youthful look.

Are You a Good Candidate?

  • If you have a small or receding chin.
  • A chin that looks too small in comparison with other facial features and possibly makes the nose appear longer.
  • Desires increased facial profile.

Intended Results

  • An improved profile.
  • A more attractive jaw line that creates a better balance between the chin and other facial features.

Procedure Description

  • The procedure is done on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia.
  • An incision is made inside the lower lip or under the chin, through which an implant is placed and positioned.
  • In an alternative method called sliding osteotomy, a portion of the chin bone is permanently moved forward.

Other Options

Additional procedures that would enhance the results are: Liposuction of the neck, nose reshaping (Rhinoplasty), neck lift, or laser skin resurfacing.

Recuperation and Healing

  • The patient goes home with a small pressure dressing over the chin.
  • Initial discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication.
  • Swelling, tenderness, and possible local numbness gradually subside over a month or two.
