Aging affects areas of the body in different ways. Changes in weight can also cause a significant change in the appearance of certain areas of the body. While it may not be the first thing you think of, aging and changes in weight can affect the beauty of your neck. This can significantly detract from your overall appearance.
Fortunately, you don’t have to let sagging skin, noticeable wrinkles, pockets of fat, and strained neck muscles run the beauty of your neck. A neck lift is the perfect option for rejuvenating the appearance of your neck and preserving your youthful beauty for as long as possible.
What Can a Neck Lift Do for Me?
The most common aesthetic issues that affect the neck are loose and wrinkled neck skin, pockets of excess fat, and vertical neck banding. When the issues occur in the upper portion of the neck, they can rob the jawline of its definition and create the appearance of a double chin.
These issues can also give the neck a withered and aged appearance. They can also make a person look like they have a “turkey-wattle” neck.
During a neck-lift consultation, the condition of the neck will be thoroughly analyzed to identify the issues that need to be addressed and then formulates an appropriate surgical plan.
If the primary issue is loose excess skin, a type of neck lift known as a cervicoplasty is performed. A small incision will be made behind each ear so that the neck skin can be lifted. It will be tightly redraped over the neck to create a smoother and younger appearance.
If the neck muscles need to be addressed as well, an incision can be made underneath the chin so that the muscles can be trimmed and tightened to create a smooth and more attractive appearance. This is known as a platysmaplasty.
Liposuction can also be used to remove excess pockets of fat from the neck and the area beneath the chin. This is performed using a cannula and medical suction.
Recovering from Your Neck Lift
During your recovery, you should expect to experience some bruising and swelling as the tissues heal. You will need to wear a special compression garment around your neck to aid with circulation and provide additional support. The swelling and bruising should dissipate after a few days.
The neck may also feel unusually tight. This feeling is normal and should disappear once you have fully healed, which will take around 10 to 14 days. In order to sleep, you will need to lie down with your head in an elevated position using pillows to support yourself. It is recommended that you do this for several weeks.
You will need to come in for a few post-operative visits to make sure everything is healing nicely and no issues have occurred. Our goal is to make sure your recovery goes as smoothly and quickly as possible so that you can enjoy and admire the rejuvenated appearance of your neck.
